One rep actually said it's "insurance"I recently ordered AT&T Fiber Intenet stand-alone service for $50 a month. I have spent two weeks and several HOURS on the line with AT&T OVERSEAS CALL CENTER (gotta increase those AT&T Corporate profit margins by using cheap overseas labor) and every person has told me either 1) I can not use my own box or 2) if i do i will still be charged the $10/month fee anyway. When on the Asus WiFi I want all IP addresses to be assigned by the Asus. How do I prevent the Arris assigning IP addresses THROUGH the Asus router. In fact I didn't even have to turn the WiFi off on the AT&T router. I have done this in the past with an AT&T Motorola router feeding a Meraki router and never had a problem. If I turn DHCP off on the AT&T Arris BGW210 then I am fine for a day until the lease runs out and the Asus internet access disappears. I am shocked that a device can connect to the Asus router and not be served a 192.168.50.x address. However, even though devices connect to the WiFi on the Asus, they sometimes pick up an IP on the 172.16.1.x network of the Arris. If I leave DHCP on the Arris turned on then internet works. The Asus IP is set to 192.168.50.1 (LAN IP) with a net mask of 255.255.255.0 and DHCP turned on along with WiFI being on. The WAN input of the Asus is plugged into the switch on the back of the Arris.
ATT BUSINESS IN A BOX REVIEW MAC
It have passthrough set to the MAC address of my Asus ROG GT-AC53000 router. I have all WiFi turned off on the Arris router. Here is what I have set up and what is happening.
